“When I published my novel, Arte Perdida, many of my author friends suggested that I turn it into an audio book and recommended that I use ACX.
So, I posted a few pages from my book and quite a few narrators replied, reading the excerpts to audition for the job. After listening to all of them, one stood out, by far: Roger Arnold.
He had a lot of inflection in his voice and appropriate variation in the pace of his reading. It felt genuine, as if he really was enjoying reading the book. He brought the pages to life. So, I hired him and he began work on my novel.
Once he completed fifty pages or so, he posted them for me to listen to and follow along with my manuscript – making notes of anything that needed to be fixed. At first, I was nervous about pointing out the VERY FEW errors he made in his reading (for example, mispronouncing the Azores Island). But he was fantastic to work with and quickly re-read the few words that need to be fixed and did so most willingly. He truly wanted it to be as good an audiobook as it possibly could be.
Roger established excellent communication with me throughout the course of producing this audiobook, and we emailed back and forth numerous times with questions and suggestions, making it truly a collaborative effort.
